Privacy & Collection Notice
The Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA) collects personal information for the purposes of:
- administering and maintaining DBCA’s S281 Data Catalogue, including registering, describing and managing data assets held by DBCA
- supporting lawful information governance, data stewardship, compliance reporting and audit activities
- enabling responsible information sharing, data discovery and transparency in accordance with the Privacy and Responsible Information Sharing Act 2024 (WA)
- communicating with nominated business owners, custodians or contacts in relation to data catalogue entries, updates or governance matters.
The personal information collected may include names, job titles, role information and business contact details of DBCA officers or authorised representatives.
DBCA may share this information:
- internally within DBCA for data governance, compliance and operational purposes
- with other Western Australian public sector entities or oversight bodies (such as the Office of the Information Commissioner or the Chief Data Officer), where required or authorised under the Privacy and Responsible Information Sharing Act 2024 (WA) or other written law.
Provision of this information is required where necessary to meet DBCA’s statutory and governance obligations relating to information management and data cataloguing under written law and whole‑of‑government policy frameworks.
If the requested personal information is not provided, DBCA may be unable to accurately register, manage or maintain the relevant data asset in the S281 Data Catalogue, which may affect compliance, governance or operational outcomes.
DBCA handles personal information in accordance with the Privacy and Responsible Information Sharing Act 2024 (WA) and DBCA’s Privacy Policy.
